AQUA EUROPA urge the EU to amend the Water Framework Directive in a way to like this proposals:

• Include addressing water scarcity to protect available freshwater resources.
• Boost energy efficiency in the water sector to contribute accomplishing climate neutrality goal by 2050.
• Reinforce the implementation of Article 9 on cost recovery and water pricing.
• Step up 2021-2027 EU financing available for water sector specific needs and innovative water technologies.  
• Mainstream digitalisation and the Internet of Things in the water sector.
• Benchmark water sector service in the EU, as a follow up measure.
• Explore synergies with the agricultural and energy policies.
